Student's Corner: Stress and Qigong Practice
A place for Questions, Comments, or Feedback February 2009
Question:
I’m really stressed by all the
gloomy news and I’m constantly worried about my job and my family. With so
many things in my mind, how can I get in the mood to do Qigong?
Answer:
This is exactly time that you need Qigong the most! We all know stress is
the biggest risk factor for many chronic conditions, and on top of that,
it also weakens your immune system. In these extremely difficult times,
the last thing you could afford is losing your health! Qigong exercise and
meditation are shown by scientific research to be very effective in
reducing stress. So instead of just being thrown into an emotional
rollercoaster, you can proactively reduce the stress with just a few
minutes of Qigong. Of course, there are some techniques you can use to get
into stillness. One of them is “Dong Zhong Qiu Jing” - seeking stillness
in motions. Use some rigorous movements or shaking until you are sweating
to get the “jiggles” out. Then sit still for a moment while breathing
deeply. And do let us know how
you feel afterwards!
What do you want to do now?
