Qigong Move of the Month: Say "He" to Help the Heart

Shawn Cartwright, May 2009

Summer is the season of the heart in traditional Chinese medicine theory. This makes it a great time to open up your heart with a few great movements. First, grab your sweetheart and give him/her a big heartfelt hug. Then get outside and move around. Do your Tai Chi or favorite dual Qigong form and work up a sweat. If you like to make a little noise, you might try saying the “He” sound (pronounced “Her”) from the Six Healing Sounds Qigong set.

"He" Sound
1) Open the mouth so the teeth are not touching. They are slightly apart.

2) Curl the tip of the tongue up while the back of the tongue presses down. The air vibrates between the tongue and the upper palate.

3) When you make the sound, you will feel the vibration in the center of the chest, around the heart.

4) The "He" sound is pronounced "Her"

Benefits
This sound calms the heart fire and associated negative emotion of hatred. When the tone is correct the energy in the heart will gently vibrate. The turbid energy of the heart is expressed out of the tongue and little finger of the hand.

You can find the complete Six Healing Sounds at the end of track 3 on the “Touched by the Tao” meditation CD.
