Qigong Food of the Month: Black Rice Porridge: Year Round Nourishment for the Organs.
Yinong Chong September, 2008
We’ve all heard of white rice and brown rice, but what about black rice? Try this Asian delight to help balance the energy of all five organs.
Cooking method:
Soak one cup of sweet black rice (also called red gluttonous rice) over
night, and then cook them in a pot with plenty of water (at least 5-7 cups).
Bring it to boil in high temperature, and reduce heat to simmer for 2-3
hours until the rice is soft and mushy. Add black sesame, walnut, red date,
egg, cane sugar (bin tang, or unrefined rock cane sugar) and ar jiao, and
cook them together for 30 minutes. If for people with weak digestive
function, put them in a blender for better absorption.
Key benefits:
Great for weak spleen and stomach, and replenishing liver and kidneys.
Relieve fatigue, anemia, shortness of breath, and frequent urination. Relief
of symptoms from coughing and asthma.
Notes:
If not thoroughly cooked, black rice may be hard to digest. Grind your
porridge in a blender if your digestive function is weak.
